The ACM, in collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Publishers and Broadcasters Association (TTPBA), in an event sponsored by the US Embassy in Port of Spain will observe World Press Freedom Day on May 3, 2016 at a workshop for T&T journalists entitled: New Journalism for the New Age.
The theme for this year’s WPFD observances is: “Access to Information and Fundamental Freedoms.”
Special guest presenters include American broadcast journalist and former correspondent and anchor on CNN International, Jim Clancy; former Executive Director of the International Press Institute (IPI), journalist/media trainer, Alison Bethel-McKenzie; associate director of the International Media Center at Florida International University, Dr Mercedes Vigon; Caribbean broadcaster/media executive, Julian Rogers; Former BBC broadcaster, Editor-in-Chief of the T&T Guardian, Orin Gordon; author/journalist, Judy Raymond, Barbadian broadcaster/ACM Asst. General-Secretary, Jewel Forde and ACM president and journalist/media trainer, Wesley Gibbings.
The workshop will explore the topics: Journalism as a Profession & Getting it Right; The Journalism of Verification; Ethical Journalism; The Value, Use and Protection of Sources and Different Platforms, Different Styles.
The occasion also coincides with the launch of the ACM’s 15th anniversary activities.
