The ACM is currently engaged in a project, in collaboration with the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU), the UNICEF Eastern Caribbean Office and the OECS Secretariat, to develop guidelines for responsible media coverage of children’s issue.”
The project seeks to build the capacity of media executives and professionals in traditional and new media institutions in the Caribbean to institute and implement policies governing the reporting of child issues primarily in the Eastern and Southern Caribbean.
The main project output will be a regionally-formulated manual easily adaptable to and applicable in any of the beneficiary countries or territories, which will offer specific guidelines for media professionals on coverage of issues relating to children, which can serve as a continuing resource for content producers and when new staff join the institutions.
The first workshop to develop these guidelines was convened in Antigua from November 18 to 20, 2015. A follow-up workshop is due for Trinidad and Tobago early in 2016.
